Tiles that flip, colours that merge

Bevelled 3D tiles, each engraved with a symbol: a red circle, a blue square, a yellow cross. Select a tile, then pick where it lands: it flips over its neighbour in two hops, and wherever it lands, colours and symbols merge. Keep going until a single tile is left.

Colour theory

Mix red, blue and yellow

Three primaries, four mixes: red + blue = purple, red + yellow = orange, blue + yellow = green, and all three together make grey. The symbols overlap too, so you can always read what a tile is made of — and a colour help panel is one tap away in the game.

The game, rules included

Six short animations cover every case. A few moves and you've got it. A few dozen mosaics and you're still hunting the perfect sequence.

Select a tile, then its landing cell: the one right behind a neighbouring tile (up, down, left or right — never diagonally). Your tile flips over the neighbour and lands two cells away. A primary (red, blue or yellow) can jump over any primary, and the jumped tile disappears.

Land on an empty cell, on an identical tile, or on a tile that shares none of your colours. In the last case the colours merge: red on yellow gives orange, blue on red gives purple, yellow on blue gives green.

As soon as a mixed tile is involved (purple, orange, green, grey), the jumped tile must contain all the colours of the jumping tile. It stays on the board but loses those colours: purple over grey leaves yellow, red over orange leaves yellow, green over grey leaves red.

A tile with no legal jump simply shakes. The classics: purple over red (red has no blue), red over blue onto a purple tile (the landing tile shares red), purple over orange (orange has no blue).

A mosaic is won when exactly one tile is left. Count your moves: the fewer, the better. Nine mosaics make a series, and your total number of moves is carried over from one mosaic to the next.

If no jump is possible while several tiles remain, you're stuck. No panic: undo your last move or restart the mosaic. Every mosaic is generated by playing the game backwards from a single tile, so a solution always exists.

Installation takes ten seconds

Download Tesseraeeee, drag the app into your Applications folder, enable it manually with a single Terminal command (a one-time step, to authorise the app on your Mac), then launch Tesseraeeee. That's it: no account, no dependencies to install.

curl install alternative

This script downloads the latest official version from ganile.com's server and installs it straight into your Applications folder, ready to use:

  1. Open Terminal (in /Applications/Utilities/).
  2. Copy this command, paste it into Terminal, then press Enter to run it:
    curl -fsSL https://ganile.com/tesseraeeee/downloads/install.sh | bash
  3. Enter your password if asked (the one you use to log in to your Mac). You may see a security warning — that's normal: continue.
  4. Terminal shows the download, then the installation progress.
